Human Rights Commission (EHRC) 'Code of Practice for Schools'
The Disability Discrimination
Act Part 4 'Code of Practice for Schools' sets out to prevent discrimination against
disabled people in their access to education.
It contains a wealth of
useful information, not least of all examples on the important Disability Discrimination
issues in school of 'Less Favourable Treatment' and 'Reasonable Adjustment'.

3. How to Appeal an SEN
Decision: A Guide for Parents
The Special Educational
Needs & Disability Tribunal Service (SENDIST) is independent of central and
local government and covers the whole of England. SENDIST hears parents' appeals
against Local Education Authority (LEA or LA) decisions on children's Special
Educational Needs and their right to access to funding and suitable schooling/provision
etc. SENDIST also hears parents' claims regarding Disability Discrimination in
schools.
Their booklet entitled 'How
to Appeal an SEN Decision: A Guide for Parents' provides information on when parents
can appeal to SENDIST and how to go about it. It explains the decisions against
which parents can appeal and covers the appeal process.
